Style Sunday: Iconic Women Awards Night

Last Friday night I attended the Anugerah Wanita Ikon 2011/12 (Iconic Women 2011/12 Awards) which was hosted by local magazine, Wanita, and graced by Her Royal Highness Queen Haminah. My sister was one of the recipients of the awards that night due to outstanding academic achievements, alhamdulillah. There were two types of awards - Wanita Ikon (Iconic Woman) and Gadis Ikon (Iconic Young Lady) - and my sister is now the reigning Gadis Ikon Pendidikan 2011/12 (Iconic Young Lady - Academic category). I've got more pictures from the night if you'd like to see them!

Dr. Wan Melissa - Researcher and Senior Lecturer, Food Service and Management Department, Food Science Faculty. That's my sister, alright!

The 2011/12 Gadis Ikon's (left to right): Muslifah Zulkifli (Sports category), Arnida Abdullah (Social Work category), Ili Zawani (Entrepreneurial category) and finally, my sister Wan Melissa (Academic category). By the way, what a cool awards event! It's a great way reward women who have contributed to society and also a great way to encourage other women to do the same.

T'was a good night and we're all so proud of my sister for everything she has achieved thus far. Quite the glamourous lecturer, isn't she? Magazine cover girl and now this. Well done, kakak! I pray this will lead her to more success in the future inshaAllah, in this world and the Hereafter. Ameen.

Ameen. And the same to you. :)

MashaAllah it has to be great to have a sister like her, (older than you, right?). You both look alike, and really beautiful in the photos!
I like both of your outfits, they are awesome!

And I agree with you, that kind of awards are great for the society, to encourage them.

Thank you Shahirah for this beautiful post. And thank you Laila and Jasmina for your well wishes. This award will always be a source of inspiration for me. It has taught me that acknowledgment and appreciation may come when you least expect it to but what really matters is not the accolade or praises. What matters is the sincerity and dedication that we put into our work and to have the right answer when ask ourselves, "Why am I doing this?".
