This moment caught my attention because when I think of monks I don't think of airports. I think of monasteries. An image of monks meditating peacefully and concentrating on their spiritual journey is what pops up in my head. Like many, I have confused spiritualism with ritualism.

I like to live my life in the fast lane. Especially during my pre-hijab days. After wearing the hijab I inadvertently slowed down a little, started changing some of my ways and contemplating more on my actions. I became more spiritual and my love for Islam grew. I spent more time with Muslims and my view on Islam and Muslims widened. I spent more time with people of other faiths, cultures and backgrounds and my love for humanity grew. I have had good and bad experiences along the way and these experiences have shaped me. I am growing up. Becoming more comfortable in my skin. Moulding my personal and social environment. Finding and creating peace in my life.

That means 'hello' in Korean because I am in South Korea at the moment...

Help Me Help Rinad Tamimi

UPDATE: Voting period has ended and Rinad has been announced as the winner.

There has been controversy surrounding the issue and I've clarified a few things here.

This is my friend, Rinad Tamimi. Her friendly and cheerful demeanour will make you think she's just another typical 17 year old. In many ways she is but in one way, she isn't. Rinad was born in Palestine where people are still struggling for basic human rights such as access to healthcare and education.

Happy 23rd birthday to my tree-hugging, flower-sniffing friend, Chloe!

Hehe, okay, she's also a very talented artist and an amazing friend, mashaa Allah.

I don't usually do birthday shout outs on my blog but I miss her.

I also miss how we used to celebrate our birthdays together because they're just days apart. 

Hope you have a wonderful "birth-week", Chlo. 

(Yeah, I decided birth-days are lame. Why limit yourself to only one day of pampering?)
